January 26 - Lighting workshop with Tiffany
Happy Today to you... the one eye that happen to click upon. ( I hope it's not just A.l. reading !)
I’ve been trying to figure out how to share some of the amazing photos I snapped of the Model: @aalexuus_thruu_lenses , whom is the model that we at the work got to photograph. This workshop, I was lucky to have won a ticket to a couple weeks back. It was hosted by wonderful @tiffsphotoeuphoria at her beautiful new studio in Benicia. It was an open workshop geared that had a mix of different photography styles, that were represented by the variety of photographers attending from around the Bay Area .
I hadn’t participated in a workshop like this in quite a long time. I figured this would be a great opportunity to have a little photography fun, while adding to my online portfolio. Finding models that are okay with their bodies being shared isn't always as easy as one might think. there is a lot of factors that can take place before I can post. So being able to go to a workshop where some of that stress is taken off my plate is helpful. What I didn't expect, was that I would feel nerves about being with a group of prps.
I'm what some have called a firecracker or energizer bunny mixed with What I lovingly call a broken Jack-n-the-box personality. (A personality trait lovingly pointed out by my Husbands sister, when he first asked about me ;) .
What that all means is that I take a super long time to open up, but once that box opens, I'm hard to put back inside that box haha.
So with this workshop being kind of a new experience for me, I wasn't fully precent. I mind was trying to figure out what did I even want from this model? how should I direct her to do something if I didn't know how she wanted? Questions that also don't come up with my clients, because of the connections I create with even just a basic consultations.
So I felt a little stuck in the direction I should take when my time was going to start. So I waited to if see someone else would start first .....
All the vibes we got to work with...
we thought we would get one but we got 3 <3
Outfit one
With the set up we had 3-4 lights -
outfit and set-up gave me an Independent and Empowered Women.
2nd Outfit
A combination of lighting more of 2-3 lights .
The back light for the hair glow we took away.
A Glam Finishing
With this the fun 1950' old Hollywood light cover mixes prefect with this coat. I was impressed with how well the model was able to navigate or lean into the vibes all the photographers were trying to get for our different portfolios.
Outfit #1 - Independent Women.
Independent and Empowered. ....
This was the first look we got to capture the model Alexis in. It was a cute outfit. But being that there was 10+ Photographers and the plan was to give us each 5-10 minutes with the model. It quickly turned into us all kind of shooting, somewhat all at the same time. The awesome organic part of this experience I didn't expect was how well this group of photographers were able to be respectful to eachother process. Not always the case.
When a photographer's creative lightbulb turned on, we all would give them the space to stepping up in front of the model, to lead into the pose they wanted to capture.
Out fit 2
Statuesque fill ...
I loved what Alexis did with this outfit. It reminded me of figure drawings or paints from the and other era. as if she was inspiration for a sculptor in Roma or Greece.
Sooo is this a vibe that you would be interested in for your photography session? ….
These images were an unexpected & unique part of the workshop for me. The studio host & owner, photographer @tiffsphotoeuphoria, asked if anybody had a lens of a specific size, they could have the opportunity to use one of her filters. Lucky for me the glass slipper fit 🤗. ( a.k.a. my lens was compatible with the size of a filter) Lens filters can be so much fun, had so much creativity to your images. I had not used this style of filters before. The filter was about a 1/4” thick with a flat area that tapered down towards the surrounding metal frame. The tapering is what created the images drag. It is what gave them that surreal dreamy feeling to the images, as if the subject was drifting away from the frame
I enjoyed the effect, and it gave me something to focus on while I was waiting my turn to shoot with the model. I was glad to have something to fidget with in the downtime. It was a little bit of a learning curve to figure out: like how it works and how to best use to highlight the model with the effect that would enhance image and not take away from the subject.
…. Do you feel like it was successful for a first try?
Outfit 3 - this vibe
I fell in love with this picture immediately when I saw it. It wasn’t just the image, as gorgeous as the image came out - it’s because it reminds me of the fun you can have when you’re sharing a space with other photographers .
What I mean by that is, this image brings me back to a moment towards the end of our time together in the workshop. There was a lot happening with in the studio, with photographers working together maximizing what time was left with the Model, and one of my favorite things I happen to hear while shooting the shot was something along the lines of the, the model was channeling the beautiful “… Cameron Diaz vibe from “The Mask” around the early 1990s . With both of us shooting in different places of the studio, within a moment between each-others click of the camera - we both saw that fun sparke of a thought that the model was putting out.
Being able to both have a different perspective while we share in that moment of excitement - - knowing we both captured something unique, yet individual to each others portfolio needs, just highlights one moments ,you can have in photography when sharing space with photographers…...
In the social climate we’re in these days & the types of conversations being shared - It’s wonderful to be connected to people who are in the same work field, that also believe in lifting up the others we have in our photo community.
after all is said and done...... the workshop was fun <3
The model was wonderful and great job connecting to the feeling that everyone was tossing out & asking from her.
but with that, it was decently more about me learning how to work with in a group of photographer, that were all on different vibes and need from the model. I was having a hard time putting my needs on to the subject because myself is more documenting the person in front of me.
But I live for the moment you can't really practice
the organic moment one starts to feel beautiful
Session some open up on camera, to be free confined should be thought of as a drug
Women loving the moment of who they are and thought they could be.
I feel like those who do acting and theactia more in their life , but can develop of time of working with one.
For my style of photography, I found out I perfer to have a more private conversation between the subject and my len. Where I am there is listen and capture what they themself aren't able to stop and see. With a group with isn't something you can really practice this style of mine, and that's okay
Thank you for the snaps <3
One thing I wasn't sure I would do is let Tiffany snap some photos of me. Without to much personal story the last 32 hours happened to be more emotional then they needed to be. I didn't feel like I wanted my face photographed. But in working throught what "MY VISION" of myself "SHOULD BE" I'm working on living what I say to my clients.
YES YOU ARE! and let Tiffany talk me into photos.
What do you mean you LET Tiffany TALK YOU INTO PHOTOS??
In all honestly I find myself picking time to do something where I coudl
I chose to pick a time close to end where Tiffany could needed to wrap the class up and tell me "I'm sorry, I Cann't at the moment the workshop is about over..."
Half hoping to be told no, said... "I'm not sure if I want my photos taken" (pausing fighting my internal thoughts of maybe I could come another time) I continued "I had been thinking about it, But I don't know it might be to late..." and with her kind sprite she said
"Yeah, we can!" "No, Don't worry." " YOU LOOK GREAT, follow me" Trying to show me in the back of the camera I do look lovely, ( regardless of what I thought I saw)
